Unsound has already released news of the world premier of The National Fanfare of Kadebostany, with Kadebostan (CH) and Rational Diet (BY) joining forces. Now there’s news of a second cross-border world premier: Sebastian Meissner + Kwartludium = Solid State Transmitters.

Sebastian Meissner is a well-known producer of electronic music from Germany, acclaimed also for his work under the name Klimek. Kwartludium are one of Poland’s most innovative classic avant-garde quartets.

Via this collaboration, Meissner has created a new project, an homage to artists who released on California’s SST records, often described as the most influential and popular underground Indie label of the Eighties. The label released, among others: Black Flag, the Minutemen, Hüsker Dü, Soundgarden, Screaming Trees, Bad Brains, The Meat Puppets, Sonic Youth, and Dinosaur Jr.

Solid State Transmitters will pay tribute to these artists, as well as a period of time when musical diversity, discovery and the creation of new genres had a higher priority than profit. Essential and influential songs from the SST catalogue will be reinterpreted in a surprising, often strikingly beautiful manner, to reveal the persisting uniqueness and relevance of this era.

The concert will take place in Krakow’s oldest functioning cinema, Kino Uciecha, on 21.20.2009, on a night entitled “Experimental Tendencies”.

Also performing will be the feted artist, Grouper, representing the current generation of independent music from the USA.
